As counsellors we are ethically obliged to contact your carers if you pose harm to yourself or others. In other words, if you mention that you are suicidal or that you are planning to hurt someone else.
However, everything else that is said in the session is confidential.

You do not need to be severely ill to need therapy. Imagine if we only went to school if we were failing or if sports people only hired coaches if they couldn’t get into a team… Therapy is meant to help you thrive, not just survive.

Sometimes we need someone to help us step outside of the issue long enough to see the different pieces making up the puzzle. Most clients know what they need to do, but there are thoughts and feelings that keep them attached to behaviours that are unhelpful. My expertise is in helping you see these different parts, find ways to put them together again and make choices that work in therapy and also in real life.

Most of the time people have tried to change, but they find themselves repeating old habits. So they feel frustrated, or lazy or weak. The fact is that most of us know what we should do, but our friends and family don’t have to tools to help us understand why we make certain choices and what strategies we can use day-to-day to move forward.
